The First Gypsy Doll

This week has been a whirlwind of preparation. I’ve been shopping, wrapping, and baking nearly every moment that I haven’t been at work. I’ve also been making quite a  few things as well. I knitted several scarves, tried my hand at tutu making (it turned out SO very lovely I must say!) AND I finally finished my little gypsy doll for one of my dearest friends. As she has already been wrapped and opened I will share some pictures…

I actually started her around this time last year! My intent was to only use materials that I already had on hand and see what I could do. I only ended up buying the wire to hold her little limbs together.

I knitted her little shawl with embroidery thread and her skirt is embroidered as well.

Being the first, she definitely was a learning process. In the end I was pretty happy with her and inspired with future plans. Perhaps there will be more gypsies to come in the New Year!

My family holiday festivities begin tomorrow and I’m very excited! I hope you all have a beautiful and wonderful holiday.

Merry Christmas!

Autumn Muse

What have I been doing instead of blogging? Well, a few things. Fall is my creative Muse. Perhaps that is a rather grand statement for my humble offerings, but I do love it all the same.

The beginnings of a warm cozy winter blanket…

Embroidery thread I “borrowed” from my mom. Some of it even belonged to my grandmother and still has the 10 cent price tag.

My little gyspy doll for a very special friend of mine. There just may be more gypsies to come!

Among other projects I’m determined to read the full manual for my camera so that I can take better pictures. So many things to do, so little fall.

What have you all been spending your free time with?

If my Gypsy Soul had Wheels

I came across this site and quite naturally had to share some pictures with you! I could gaze at them all day. Or better yet: take a trip to France and visit them in person! This little company sells vintage gypsy wagons as well as reproductions. I have officially decided I must have such a wagon in my backyard someday (if I don’t already have one as  my “official little house“). It will be my creative studio where I will also keep my vintage typewriter. I hope you will stop by for tea…

The Cello: The Souls Voice

I have always promised myself that I will learn to play the cello before I die. I have a violin so I need to learn that first. Unfortunately, an apartment is not the most accommodating place for acquiring new musical skills. Eventually I will be back in a house. Wherever and whenever this happens it must have a music room. I can’t wait for the day I will be reunited with my piano…

Aren’t these images inspiring? What music are you listening to these days?

And if I were to ever get a tattoo it would look something like this piece by Man Ray …

Old-Fashioned Writing…

Lately I have been wanting to acquire a charming old-fashioned typewriter. I don’t necessarily envision it as “showpiece”, but I would like to actually use it. The sound alone seems so therapeutic. This one looks perfectly lovely doesn’t it?

The View from the Other Side

I am very pleased to be blogging right now from “the other side of things” today! These “things” primarily consist of finals. The last two years I have pretty much categorized my life in terms of academic quarters and I am now finding myself at the last break before I am officially finished. I worry quite a bit about what I will do after relinquishing my student status; sometimes I worry so much I consider grad school just to prolong the moment. We shall see…

Today I am very happy because I don’t have to sit here cramming my head with Spanish verb conjugations and I can while away my time guilt free. I am planning all kinds of creative endeavors in the upcoming weeks, one of them being the launch of another blog to start “self-publishing” some of my short story fiction. I would love feedback for improvement and I think it might be a very enjoyable project. Does it sounds like something you would be interested in reading?
