Birds of a Feather…

I have been thinking for some time now that I need to wear more feathers. Apparently many people are feeling the same! Long ago I bought a silver and turquoise feather pendant that I used to wear all the time. This spring/summer I think I will wear plenty of feathers in my hair and from my ears. Lately I want to sleep in a  tipi in the woods and live like a wild thing in a sundress and leather boots. As soon as the weather gets just a bit warmer I think I just will…

The last image is from the wonderful shop, Crooked Thorne, that I have blogged about before. Sarah was so very kind and sent me a beautiful set of gypsy bangles a while back and I LOVE them!

Happy Spring!

Forgotten Theatre

I had this wonderful dream a very long time ago about a theatre. I was standing in the back balcony looking down and it was old and mysterious. There was a  large tear in the ceiling and the dust particles hung thick in the stray sunlight. It was absolutely magical and I have always secretly thought that maybe someday I would stumble across that place.

I think this picture is so beautiful. It reminds me a little of that place in my dream…

A Different Kind of House on Wheels

It’s no surprise that I rather love the internet. When I started blogging over a year ago I was absolutely amazed by the discovery of the blogging world. Falling into various pockets of blog communities was an endless discovery of  different “cultures” that I hardly new existed or had only dreamed of. One such culture was Steampunk. I have always been a great fan of the aesthetic and the ideas behind it, but I was only vaguely aware there was name for such a wonderful culture. When I was little I loved the idea of machinery that moved and looked like the inner workings of an old clock. In games, my little brother and I would often pretend it was the old fashion days and we would explain modern convention with the phrase, “It runs on cogs”. Yes, we were nerdy. I think I was barely 11 when I tried to sew a corset for myself because I wanted to be like a real Victorian lady. If I was a little more daring I would love to immerse myself in Steampunk, but for the time being I am an ardent admirer.

This incredible house appeals to both the gypsy and the neo-Victorian in me. Isn’t it breathtaking?!?! I believe it was photographed at Burning Man. I will include the link where I found them below.

Dragon’s Blood

Today’s Discovery: The Dragon’s Blood Tree

Dragon's Blood Tree 1

What a fascinating tree! Something like a cross between a banyan tree and a mushroom.

The deep red resin of the tree is believed to have exceptional healing properties and was often used in medieval magic and alchemy. (After all the actual dragons were gone of course!)

Houses of Sticks

If you loved all the twiggy wonder of the architecture in Where the Wild Things Are you will especially love these fascinating installations created by Patrick Dougherty.

A Dream Within a Dream

If you have yet to visit Ruthie’s wonderful blog 5 Precious Things I highly recommend you start reading. She finds the most delightful things to blog about and also features her own beautiful creativity. Today on my visit there I was awestruck by some images she posted of a fantasy faerie wedding. Here are a few of my favorites and more can be found here. I could look at these all day.

More Dream Spaces

I am always dreaming of someday being able to buy a house of my very own. I love the freedom of the gypsy wagons I often post about and I also love the coziness of the idea of a tiny house, but ultimately, I have always longed for a big lonely old house full of mystery and character to call my own. These images from Design Sponge evoked my longing for such a space and I thought I would share a couple of them. (In case you haven’t yet discovered this wonderful blog!)

I am especially crazy about old fireplaces and staircases. This fireplace is particularly delightful because it also reminds me of another of my favorite things: theatre! Oh the little scenes I would create there…

I dream of gently renovating and whenever I walk around my neighborhood I check the prices of all the Victorian and Craftsman style houses even though there is no way I could even think such a grown-up thought just yet. Still, it’s lovely to dream.

Button up your boots!

There are so many things that I love about fall. Among them:  jackets, scarves, and BOOTS! I’m a pretty tall girl and I have somewhat -eh hem- long feet. I’ve made peace with them long ago, but it doesn’t change the fact that larger shoes can be difficult to find. (in actual stores that is) I’m not a big “shoe girl”, but for years I have planned to allow myself to “invest” in a grand pair of quality boots that I know I will wear for years. Here are some that I particularly love even though most are still far beyond my investment range…

My tastes particularly gravitate toward the Victorian and I really just can’t resist buttons on shoes. What do you think?

I think my favorites are the second to last pair. I prefer flat shoes and those are just about perfect!

A Weekend in the Library

adwJpSYFGjwum57eUv1RzdwZo1_400

After a long week of the new job I am now working a 12 hour shift at my old one. I would much rather spend my weekend lounging in this space and reading all weekend long! Doesn’t that sound lovely? Right now I am reading Virginia Woolf’s Orlando. Have you ever read it? It’s quite unusual, but still very interesting. What are you reading?

“It’s a Wonder She’s not Living up in a Tree”

When I was little my bothers and I must have watched The Swiss Family Robinson close to a billion times. We loved it! I think the idea of living in a tree house is every child’s dream and this movie certainly featured a most spectacular one. (start watching at 5.05 for the tree house “tour”)

There are now some absolutely lovely tree houses out there. This site features some particularly amazing ones. I think the Swiss family tree house will always be my favorite. (I mean, come on, it had retractable stairs to keep the tigers out!) But I could certainly be happy in any of these adventurous homes.
