The Beginning

So here is The First Blog. I have had so many ideas of “things to start a blog about” that I’ve become overwhelmed and have had a hard time just simply starting. I guess I’m not sure what direction this will end up taking, but if I don’t at least write something, it will never go anywhere…

My original intent with this blog is to compile resources to make conscience consumerism more assessable to everyday people. I find the lack of awareness regarding where the things we buy/wear/eat come from very troubling. My awakening started with an attempt to stop buying things made in China. I strongly believe in supporting ethical business practices. As I’m sure anyone who has attempted this has discovered, it is nearly imposable. I do my best, but have to admit that occasional concessions are made. I have succeeded pretty well in avoiding all clothing made in China, but electronics are pretty much impossible.

So I started with clothes and I am trying to get this area under control before moving on to everything else. Now I am a girl and I do love clothes and I do like to shop, but when you take the time to examine the working conditions of the people who literally die to make a shirt you might pick up at the GAP, it is truly sobering. Nothing we possess or could hope to possess is worth such human suffering.

It all started started with China, but I have come to realize that it is so much more than one country… And so my daunting quest for free trade goods has commenced. I guess I wanted to start this blog in hopes of connecting to others who have the desire to consume consciously, but also to record a bit of my journey and share any discoveries that might make some one else’s a little easier.
